Cut it – 成功，足夠，滿意

俄亥俄州長，前總統候選人John Kasich 在談到美國的健保兩個極端立場時，表示：Neither extreme is cutting it. – “兩個極端都不是辦法。”

Cut it 是一個很有趣，也很常用的俗語。它的意思可不是“用刀切”，而是“成功，足夠，滿意”等意思。（to be sufficient, satisfactory, successful or adequate for a task, or generally.

比如：

• That excuse is not going to cut it. 你這個藉口不成立。
• I don’t understand why a talented person like him just doesn’t cut it. 我真不明白爲什麽一個像他那樣有才能的人得不到發揮。
• That homemade device won’t cut it.你那個自己家裏做的工具不行。
• Hey Sogo, your topic suggestion didn’t cut it. Sogo，你建議的那個話題不能用。

請大家注意：Cut it 多數用在否定情況下，即，前面總是有一個not。另外，類似的表達還有：make the cut, 或 make the grade。
